A Motion Design piece created for the University of Granada within the Smart Ecomountains project. Direction and animation: Carlos Albarrán Illustration: Rut Pedreño Rivers play a fundamental role in the life of our planet and its inhabitants. They are vital sources of fresh water that supply human communities, agriculture, and wildlife. Furthermore, they act as natural corridors that connect diverse ecosystems, allowing for species migration and sustaining other fragile ecosystems such as forests and wetlands. However, their importance goes beyond the utilitarian, as they have a deep cultural and aesthetic value, playing a central role in the history, mythology, and spirituality of many societies. Despite this, rivers are among the systems most threatened and vulnerable to global change. Their protection and conservation are essential to address these threats and maintain the ecological, social, and economic benefits they provide. This involves implementing sustainable water management policies, reducing pollution, restoring riparian habitats, and promoting agricultural and urban practices that are more environmentally responsible.
